Neckar River Bridge Kirchheim

The existing steel truss bridge crossing the Neckar River is replaced by a 4 span steel composite truss bridge. The new bridge is designed to carry - besides the 60/30 traffic according to KIN 1072 – extra-heavy transports of up to 206 tons. The new truss bridge is erected by incremental launching from one abutment parallel to the existing bridge over auxiliary piers. After diverting the traffic onto the new bridge, the old bridge is dismantled and the existing piers and abutments are strengthened. Finally, the new superstructure will be launched transversely into its final position.
