Large concrete slabs have formerly
been designed with mushroom-heads to prevent punching failure,
or with floor joists. Both solutions are expensive.
The response of Leonhardt, Andrä und Partner to this problem
is the use of shear-stud rails for flat slabs. Stud shear
reinforcement increase the punching shear resistance of flat
slabs. In addition to increasing the punching shear resistance,
the ductility of the slab column connection increases significantly,
when the studs are welded on steel strips which are embedded
in the concrete compression zone (stud rail reinforcement).
Stud rail shear reinforcement also allows large slab openings
in the column vicinity. |
