Milestone reached for the Elbe Bridge in Wittenberge
The first superstructure launch has been successfully completed on the new highway bridge between Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt in Germany. The section measures approx. 180 meters and was launched 64 meters in the direction of the Elbe. The total weight of the first cycle was around 3,300 tons.
A Europe-wide competition was held in 2007 for the design of the bridge, in which LAP won first prize together with architect Jean-Jacques Zimmermann from Darmstadt.
The three-span river bridge over the Elbe near Wittenberge will be 412 meters long when completed. Together with the approach bridge, the total lenght will be 1,100 meters. This makes it the longest bridge in the entire expansion of the A14 between Magdeburg and Schwerin.
Construction work began in early 2022 and is expected to be completed in spring 2026.
