Danjiang Bridge Gap closed
With a total length of 920 metres, a main span of 450 metres and a pylon 200 metres high, the Danjiang Bridge falls into the ‘megastructure’ category, making it currently the largest single-span cable-stayed bridge in the world. This pushes the Yugra Bridge (Surgut Bridge) in Siberia, with a main span of 408 m, into second place.
President William Lai was personally present at the ceremony to mark the closing of the gap, along with representatives from politics and the companies involved.
In addition to its engineering achievements, the Danjiang Bridge is also of great importance for the infrastructural development of the region and will greatly relieve traffic in the area and enable faster connections to the airport.
The design of the pylon, which resembles praying hands, received positive feedback. The surrounding sacred sites in particular consider this a beautiful tribute.
This marks the final sprint: the bridge is scheduled to open to traffic in spring 2026.
