Foundation stone laid at the Klinikum am Europakanal

At the Klinikum am Europakanal in Erlangen, the laying of the foundation stone for the complete conversion and new building of the Klinikum am Europakanal was celebrated on Thursday, 20 April 2023 with representatives from politics and hospitals.

Over the next ten years, one of the most modern psychiatric and neurological specialist clinics in Bavaria will be built there.

Construction phase zero, for which the foundation stone was laid on April 20, marks the start. Construction phase 1 will continue at the end of the year with a ward block with 140 beds. Later, sections 2 - 5 will follow until 2035.

A special feature of the BA0+1 planning is a focus on sustainability under the constraints of the hospital and restrictive cost specifications. In this context, it was possible to save 1/5 material with a fully precast construction of the walls with 20 cm exterior walls, 10 cm "non-load-bearing" niches and the like. During demolition, high-quality concrete recycling could be generated, which will be used as aggregate for the new building.
