New Building "Agnes" - The Hospital of the Future

Canton Spital Baden, Switzerland

New building of two interlaced structures.

Architecture & Planning:
The “Agnes” project was designed in 2016 by Nickl & Partner Architekten and won the corresponding competition. The new building was commissioned in February 2025 and replaces the former main building from 1978. With eight floors and eleven interior courtyards that provide ample daylight, the design is based on the concept of “Healing Architecture”.

Technology & Sustainability:
The façade is made of 180 m³ of regional silver fir wood from the Baden forest, emphasizing local value creation and sustainability. The building systems are highly automated, allowing for near-autonomous control, including energy efficiency and intelligent building networking
