Neckar River Bridge Kirchheim, Germany

Neckar River Bridge Kirchheim, Germany

The existing steel truss bridge crossing the Neckar River has been replaced by a 4 span steel composite truss bridge. The new bridge was designed to carry - besides the 60/30 traffic according to KIN 1072 – extra-heavy transports of up to 206 tons. The new truss bridge was erected by incremental launching from one abutment parallel to the existing bridge over auxiliary piers. After diverting the traffic onto the new bridge, the old bridge was dismantled and the existing piers and abutments are strengthened. Finally, the new superstructure was launched transversely into its final position.
