Inauguration of the Künstlerhaus Nuremberg

The Künstlerhaus - the Artitsts' House - Nuremberg shines in new splendor. After a comprehensive renovation, which took place in three major construction phases since 1996, the house was ceremoniously inaugurated on Friday, 8 September 2023.

The guests included Lord Mayor Marcus König, the District President of Central Franconia, Dr. Kerstin Engelhardt-Blum, representing the Bavarian State Government, Mayor Prof. Dr. Julia Lehner, Planning and Building Officer Daniel F. Ulrich, City Treasurer Thorsten Brehm, the Director of the KunstKulturQuartier, Michael Bader and Anna Schwarm, the Director of the Künstlerhaus. They met in the Quartier Biergarten in bright sunshine for an inauguration ceremony.

The project was symbolically completed with a construction plaque for the 2023 refurbishment: building officer Daniel F. Ulrich presented the plaque to Lord Mayor Marcus König and Dr. Julia Lehner, who accepted it on behalf of the City of Nuremberg.

Afterwards, architect Florian Nagler guided the guests through the refurbished building and explained the renovations, in which Leonhardt, Andrä und Partner also played a major role as structural engineer.

A large part of the building, which was erected in 1910, was extended downward by an additional basement level. This involved extensive underpinning using the jet-grouting method. The ventilation center was relocated to the historic attic, where it rests on new BSH (Glulam) trusses above the ballroom. And in the basement, massive brick piers were removed to allow the use as a discotheque - after the installation of suitable underpinnings.

The house will start its event program at the end of September with the Nuremberg Human Rights Film Festival.
